The New Bedford Housing Authority is inviting proposals from qualified Architectural Firms to provide professional design and construction administration services for ADA upgrades to the Brickenwood Administration Lobby located at 52 Walker Street New Bedford, MA, MA 7-3, AMP 60. The construction related work includes renovation to the administration reception area to accommodate individuals with temporary or permanent disabilities; remodeling the entrances to the office for the same accommodations as well as the door entrance entering the lobby from the vestibule area.
Brickenwood family development was built in the early 1950’s. The development encompasses seventy-Three (73) one & two-story buildings and with a total of 299 units. The units range from one (1) to four (4) bedroom units. Brickenwood sits roughly on a 24 acre parcel. The buildings are constructed of wood frame with pitch asphalt roofs. Exterior building facades are combination of brick veneer and fiber cement clad siding. PVC trim has been installed in replacement of wood on all eaves, rakes, doors and windows.
The Architectural services requested under this solicitation include all investigative, design, final design/ schematics, cost estimation, construction documents, bidding, construction administration, and project close-out services. Final drawings must be submitted to the NBHA on AutoCAD. The scope includes this project being bid electronically on Biddocsonline.com. The Architect must provide two hard copies of the complete contract documents to the NBHA when posted on Biddocsonline.com for review by the public.
Estimated cost of construction is $65,000.00. Construction of the Brickenwood Administration building began before 1978, please ensure that the specifications include compliance with EPA rules for Renovation, Repair and Painting Program. Firms submitting proposals must be registered in Massachusetts and be experienced in residential modernization with prior HUD and public housing authority experience preferred.

A Pre-Bid walkthrough is scheduled for 10:00 AM on April 14, 2020. Meeting location will be 52 Walker Street, New Bedford, MA 02746. All proposers are urged to visit the site before submitting a proposal in order to understand the conditions of the project. Proposers will only be allowed one at a time for inspections.
